The Lucas County Coroner’s Office has ruled that the death of a newborn baby found in an East Toledo freezer is a homicide.
In a release provided by the Deputy Coroner Dr. Cynthia Beisser states that the baby boy died from ligature strangulation and submersion in water, based on autopsy results and investigation by police.
The final ruling on the death also found, through DNA testing, that the baby is the child of Kenisha Pruitt, 20, and Antonio Cervantes, 18, who have been charged in the death.
Ms. Pruitt, of 2631 Scottwood Ave., is charged with aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.
Her trial is scheduled to begin on Aug. 6; she is being held in lieu of $1.9 million bond.
Mr. Cervantes has been charged in Toledo Municipal Court with murder, but none have been filed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
