NATHANIEL UDAMA Adu, the 26-year-old
Nigerian who was arrested by the Mile 7 Police for allegedly killing his
19-year-old girlfriend, Matilda Asante, was yesterday hauled to the
Amasama District Magistrate Court on a holding charge of murder.
The Magistrate, Abena Adjin Doku, remanded him into police custody to re-appear on Monday July 9, 2012.
He
was arrested on Monday June 18, at about 8:00am, while browsing at an
internet café after he supposedly murdered Matilda earlier that dawn for
reasons not yet known to the police.
Udama, when sent to the
crime scene, was reported to have identified the deceased and confirmed
that they were friends but insisted they had last seen each other in
April.
Even though they spoke on phone, he had not heard from the
deceased in the past week, adding that the last time they spoke was
Monday June 11, 2012.
But the police, who were highly suspicious of Udama, arrested him for further questioning.
DSP
Peter Yembila had earlier told DAILY GUIDE that upon information
received from a resident, the police proceeded to Tantra Hills, where
they found Matilda’s corpse wrapped in a bed sheet in an uncompleted
structure, with her limps tied up while a black polythene bag covering
her head was tied around her broken neck.
Sources say the
polythene bag which the suspect used in covering Matilda’s head before
tying it to her neck might have been an attempt to gag her so she could
not shout for help while she was under attack.
Suspecting she
might have been killed in a nearby house and dumped in the uncompleted
house, the police began a wild search which yielded some good results.
The
first house to be searched was the adjoining house, which turned out to
be where suspect Udama lived with his elder brother, Collins Uka.
A
pillow-case in the suspect’s room matched the bed sheet that the
deceased was wrapped in, indicating that the deceased might have passed
the night with Udama, who later murdered her under bizarre
circumstances. |
