Many residents of Lagos could not make it to their offices and
business places as all the areas in the state were heavily flooded due
to an early morning rainfall which started on Wednesday night until the
early hour of Thursday.
A number of houses and roads were submerged by the flood caused by the rain that lasted for several hours. Vanguard learnt
that in some areas of the state, many properties were swept away and
some major roads in the state were blocked leading to a gridlock.
Many road users were forced to return home or seek alternative routes
while others remained at the spot, waiting for the flood to abate.
Residents who lamented the situation said it took them hours to even
leave their homes for work while many were still stranded along major
roads.
At Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, many houses were flooded and many
people forcefully stayed indoor as flood took over all the communities.
At Jakande area, many residents were forced to roll up their
trousers, skirts as well as remove their shoes in order to wade through
the flood successfully as buses and motorcycles refused to convey them
beyond that area.
Many residents of the affected areas could not go to work. Primary
school pupils in the area were equally asked to stay at home by their
parents.
Vanguard also learnt that a portion of Murtala Muhammed International
Airport Road by Mobil Filling Station was submerged, as were some areas
in Mafoluku and Oshodi.
At the Aboru area of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, not less than 50 houses were flooded.
