Flamingoes Zoom to Quaterfinal With 3-0 Win Over Colombia

Halimatu Ayinde's second brace of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup was enough to send Nigeria into the quarter-finals and Colombia out in a 3-0 victory.

Chinwendu Ihezuo went close early on, her bullet header going just wide as she aimed to improve on her tally of six at Azerbaijan 2012. However they had to wait until the 32nd minute to open the scoring, Ihezuo feeding Ayinde to slot beneath Lissa Cardozo.
It was a scrappy game, but one that was favouring the African side. Nigeria were being limited to few chances despite dominating possession, but last-ditch tackles and blocks were keeping Colombia in it.
Maldonado almost swung things back on level terms though, with her looping free-kick from 40 yards crashing off the crossbar on 50 minutes, only for Gift Andy to recover and prevent Marcela Restrepo tapping in.
Moments later Tessy Biahwo then struck a decent free-kick of her own, but Cardozo was equal to it. Nigeria then had the ball in the net 15 minutes into the second period, but it was ruled out for a foul after Cardozo spilled a cross.
Captain Dayana Castillo almost drew Colombia level after breaking clear, only for Andy to deny her and seconds later, they were two down. Substitute Yetunde Adeboyejo combining well with Ayinde before the latter stroked the ball in off the bar.
When Diana Duarte put into her own net with a miscued header, Colombia’s last hopes were dashed, while France await the victors.

Lateef Adegbite Dies At 79

Adegbite, an erudite constitutional lawyer who hails from Igbore in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, was said to have breathed his last yesterday evening in a Lagos hospital after battling with an undisclosed illness for few months back.

Before his death, Adegbite, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the defunct Western State, was the Seriki and the Baba Adinni of Egbaland. Sources close to the family told Saturday Sun that Adegbite had been to London, Canada seeking medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment, which eventually claimed his life. His death, ironically coincided with two other prominent sons of Egbaland, Chief Segun Taiwo, a kingmaker and Action Congress of Nigeria chieftain and the business mogul and renowned banker, Chief Oluwole Adeosun, who were both buried yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital.
In a condolence statement released late yesterday and signed by his Senior Special Assistant media, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, Governor Amosun, described the late Seriki of Egbaland as one of the icons the state has produced for Nigeria. According to him, Adegbite, in his lifetime, shone like a star in the field of law and was well known across the world as the mouthpiece of Islam in Nigeria. He noted that the late Seriki was a man, who usually offered wise counsel to governments at federal and state levels.
The governor added that the demise of Adegbite is not just a loss to Ogun State but also to Nigeria as a whole. While praying that almighty Allah grants his soul Aljanah Fidaus, the governor commiserated with the Adegbite family, people of Egbaland, the Muslim community and Nigerians in general. “Baba Adegbite was a strong believer in one Nigeria and a motivator of youths who always preached tolerance and peace at all times,” he said. The National President of National Council of Muslim Youths Organisation (NACOMYO), Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde, described Adegbite as a distinguished Nigerian, promoter and defender of Islamic and champion of inter-religious harmony.
Similarly, former Minister for Mines and Steel Development, Alhaji Sarafadeen Tunji Ishola described Adegbite’s death as a big blow to the Egba as a people as well as Ogun State and indeed Nigeria and the entire world. Sarafa, who is the Baba Adinni of Ogun State, said his death came too soon after the death of Sheikh Sodrudeen Bamidele Biobaku and added that the Muslim community would miss him greatly. “It is a sad news, but we pray to Allah to grant him Aljannat,” he said. Adegbite attended Methodist School, Abeokuta.
He also attended Arabic School, before proceeding to St. Paul’s Primary School in Igbore, Abeokuta in 1942, when he was aged nine. He obtained a scholarship to attend King’s College, Lagos, where he was co-founder and first national president of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, graduating in 1956. In 1959, the Western Region Premier Chief Obafemi Awolowo awarded him a scholarship to travel to England for a Law degree programme. While abroad, he attended the University of Southampton, graduating with a B.A. in Law in July 1962.
He thereafter studied at the College of Law for Solicitors, Lancaster Gate in London, and then at Gray’s Inn (1963–1965). Adegbite later won a Commonwealth scholarship for post-graduate studies in England. Adegbite was Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters in the old Western Region of Nigeria during the military administration of Brigadier Christopher Oluwole Rotimi. He was then appointed Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the Western Region in 1973.
In October 1976, he founded the legal firm of Lateef Adegbite & Co as the Principal Partner, with main office in Lagos and a branch office in Abeokuta, specialising in Commercial and Corporate Law. Adegbite was president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee from 1972 to 1985.
He was Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri from 1984 to 1990. He became a member of the Executive Committee of the Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was a Director of Industrial and General Insurance Plc.

World's Smallest Girl Starts School: 'She Looks Like A Doll

At just 27 inches tall and weighing nine pounds, Charlotte Garside was tiny enough to fit inside most of her classmates' backpacks on their first day of school last week.

The five-year-old from East Yorkshire, England, has been named the world's smallest girl, but that didn't stop her from walking tall on the milestone day, reported the Huffington Post UK.

Charlotte was born with a form of Primordial Dwarfism so rare that the doctors don't have a name for it, and many believed that she wouldn't even survive past the age of one, but she defied the odds.
With her mop of bright red hair and doll-like features, the school girl is boisterous and inquisitive at heart despite only currently being the size of a newborn and smaller than her favorite teddy bear, say her proud parents, Scott Garside and Emma Newman.

Ex-housecleaner caught with a rare bust of Benjamin Franklin worth $3 million

A rare bust of Benjamin Franklin with an estimated value of $3 million has been recovered almost a month after it was stolen from a suburban Philadelphia home.
 (Lower Merion Police)
The rare artwork was recovered Friday when authorities arrested a former house cleaner, owner George D'Angelo said. Made in 1778 by Jean-Antoine Houdon while Franklin was visiting Paris, it is one of three known to exist.
The 25-pound, 28-inch-high bust was stolen Aug. 24 from its pedestal in the drawing room of D'Angelo's home in Bryn Mawr, on suburban Philadelphia's affluent Main Line. A woman who briefly worked for D'Angelo's cleaning service was seen speeding away from the scene.
The FBI confirmed the arrest of Andrea Lawton, 46, and the recovery of the bust. D'Angelo said Lawton was carrying the bust in a duffel bag when she was arrested as she got off a bus in Elkton, Md., after departing from her hometown of Mobile, Ala.
Lawton, also known as Andrea Gresham, is in federal custody on charges of theft, fraud, and interstate transportation of stolen property, according to papers filed in federal court in Philadelphia.
She had been told not to touch the bust and that it was "extremely valuable," according to an affidavit of probable cause accompanying the arrest warrant.
The FBI said a witness told investigators last week that Lawton "still had possession of the bust, and that she intended to transport it outside of Alabama in order to sell it on the black market."
D'Angelo said the bust's breastplate was cracked but he hasn't seen it because the FBI is holding the piece for fingerprints.
"I think it can be repaired," said D'Angelo, 85, a Philadelphia attorney. "I hope so. It would be ghastly if it can't."

Wizkid and manager Osagie Osarenkhoe have parted ways

The news might be surfacing now but inside sources say the EME star singer and Osarenkhoe who runs her own outfit M.e.tal Management ended their business relationship back in June 2012.

           wizkid                                Osarenkhoe and M.I
It’s uncertain why the pair parted ways and no one in their camps is divulging information on the surprise split. Some sources however believe Wizkid felt he wanted a better deal with Osagie, a deal that would pay better than the current ‘sharing formula’ they initally agreed too work by.
We got in touch with Osarenkhoe and asked about her about her partying ways with Wizzy, ‘I don’t think I am in the best position to answer these questions‘, she responded.
EME is yet to respond to our queries concerning the same matter.
Osarenkhoe handles management for other EME acts Skales, Shaydee and Niyola through her M.e.tal management platform. She is credited for introducing Wizkid, Skales and later on Shaydee to EME who went on to sign the young acts. EME have already announced they are ‘currently seeking for a General Manager to manage its growing business and build up the EME label‘.
We cannot say for now whether they have severed ties with Osarenkhoe whose other clients include Kel, Slim T, 19th Street, Sammy, most recently Dammy Krane (who recently parted ways with Tiwa Savage‘s manager Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun), Solid Star and Ghanian pop act Dee Money.
Osarenkhoe emerged in the music industry in 2005 as CON.tra.Diction’s manager. She would later take up Kel in 2008.
As at that time, Osarenkhoe had discovered a 17-year-old talented singer in Surulere, through her friend, popular dancehall act Nyore. He called himself Wizkid. Wizkid at that time was recording at Knighthouse studios. She picked him up along with another promising act Skales who had left Kaduna and arrived Lagos in pursuit of a music deal.
Osagie pitched Wizkid almost everywhere and was successful at it too – he landed himself a guest appearance on Kel’s ‘Investment‘ album, a track called ‘Turn by turn‘ which also featured YQ, Terry tha Rapman‘s ‘The Joe Spazm‘ mixtape. But the track that blew him up was M.I‘s ‘Fast money, fast cars‘ off the rapper’s debut ‘Talk About It‘.
Wizkid’s buzz got bigger as he began performing as back up acts for Kel and M.I until he got noticed by Banky W who offered him a deal. The rest is history…

At least seven soldiers killed in Tunceli after a powerful explosion struck their vehicle.

At least seven soldiers have been killed in the eastern Turkish city of Tunceli after a vehicle laden with explosives was detonated as a military vehicle carrying the soldiers was passing, security sources said.

Turkish television footage on Tuesday showed two vehicles in flames on what appeared to be a thinly-populated road connecting two districts of the city.
Al Jazeera's Elif Ural, reporting from Diyarbakir, said that so far nobody had claimed responsibility for the attack.

"The govenors office said that they are still collecting information and will let us know in the coming hours," she said.

"The only confirmation we have, is that a military vehicle was hit and at least seven soldiers were killed and many others injured."

There are reports that the target was a military vehicle.

The cause is not yet known, but there has been heavy fighting in recent days between Kurdish rebels and the Turkish military.
