Zimbabwe's Vice President John Nkomo died Thursday midday, government sources have confirmed.

Nkomo (78) had been in and out of hospital since last year suffering from cancer.
The late Vice President's last public appearance was at a mining conference held in Harare on September 12 last year.
Nkomo was the third in the hierarchy after first Vice President Joice Mujuru.
Other people to occupy the job since 1980 – Joseph Msika, Joshua
Nkomo and Simon Muzenda – died on the job aged 85, 82 and 80
respectively.
The US Embassy in Harare described Nkomo as a "patriot who dedicated his life to Zimbabwe's sovereignty and prosperity."
