Supreme Court evicts Jang from Govt House
Plateau
State Governor Jonah Jang vacated the newly-renovated Governor Lodge
and Office, Jishe, Jos because the March 23 Supreme Court ruling had
declared Nasarawa State the owner of the property, investigation has
revealed.
The governor’s sudden relocation from the property
recently sparked rumours he might have fled because of the new security
fears in the crisis-prone Jos, where many have been killed in sectarian
attacks.
However, our correspondent learnt that two states
had, in an asset sharing agreement brokered by the late Head of State
Gen. Sani Abacha, agreed that some property, including the Government
House should be given to Nasarawa. Nasarawa was created on October 1,
1996 by the Abacha administration.
It was learnt that the Jang administration refused to
abide by the agreement as it went ahead to renovate the building, which
he occupied as Government House.
However, the apex court ruled that the property it renovated by the state government recently belongs to Nasarawa.
Justice John Fabiyi, who read the lead judgment, a
copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday, said it
was wrong for Plateau to renege on an agreement it validly entered into
Nasarawa State had averred that in an agreement
between the then Military Administrators of Plateau and Nasarawa states,
Col Habibu Shuaibu and Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim respectively,
and brokered by Abacha, Plateau was to cede 13 property, among whom was
the present Government House and Lodge, Jishe to Nasarawa.
Nasarawa had also asked the apex court to direct
Plateau to hand over all title documents relating to the said properties
or, to otherwise transfer the said properties to the plaintiff
forthwith and an order of perpetual injunction restraining the
defendant, its servants, agents, officers and or privies from
interfering with the plaintiffs right to peaceful occupation and
enjoyment of the properties afore-listed.
Fabiyi said, “In my opinion, it is not right for the
defendant (Plateau) to attempt to back out from the agreement in Exhibit
NAS 4. The defendant cannot retrace its steps in the prevailing
circumstances … the plaintiff has directly by evidence and the
applicable laws proved the case properly against the defendant.”
Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Prof
Shedrack Best, had earlier said the governor did not leave because of a
dispute with Nasarawa. When prodded on the court judgment, he referred
our correspondent to the State Attorney-General, Mr. Edward Pwajok, for
clarification.
He said, “For the records, Jang has not relocated to
Rayfield. He simply works from Rayfield Government House, which was not
shut down for all the time government was run from Jishe. The two
locations belong to Plateau and government transactions have always been
from both locations.
However all efforts to speak to Pwajok were unsuccessful.
‘Goodluck Jonathan’s Gift Horse’ – Wole Soyinka
By Wole Soyinka
This is one gift horse which, contrary to traditional saying, must be inspected thoroughly in the mouth.
Primary from all of us must be a plea to the MKO Abiola family not to misconstrue the protests against the naming of the University of Lagos after
their heroic patriarch. Issues must be separated and understood in
their appropriate contexts. The family will acknowledge that, among the
loudest opposing voices to Jonathan’s gift horse, are those who have
clamoured tirelessly that MKO Abiola, the Nigerian nation’s
president-elect, be honoured nationally, and in a befitting manner.
Next is my confession to considerable shock that President Goodluck Jonathan
did not even think it fit to consult or inform the administrators of
the university, including Council and Senate, of his intention to
re-name their university for any reason, however laudable. This
arbitrariness, this act of disrespect, was a barely tolerated aberration
of military governance. It is totally deplorable in what is supposed to
be a civilian order.
After that comes the bad-mouthing of MKO
Abiola and the Nigerian electorate by President Jonathan who referred
to MKO as the ‘presumed winner’ of a historic election. While applauding
the president for finally taking the bull by the horn and rendering
honour unto whom honour is due, the particularities of this gesture have
made it dubious, suspect, and tainted. You do not honour someone while
detracting from his or her record of achievement. MKO Abiola was not a
presumed winner, but the President-elect of a nation, and thus
universally acknowledged.
It is sad, very sad, that after his
predecessor who, for eight full years of presidency, could not even bear
to utter the name of a man who made his own incumbency possible, along
comes someone who takes back with the left hand what the right has
offered. However, there is hope. Legalists have claimed that there is a
legal flaw to the entire process. The university, solidly backed by
other tertiary institutions nation-wide, should immediately proceed to
the courts of law and demand a ‘stay of execution’. That should give
President Jonathan time to re-consider and perhaps shift his focus to
the nation’s capital for institutions begging for rituals of re-naming.
After all, it is on record that the House of Assembly did once resolve
that the Abuja stadium be named after the man already bestowed the
unique title of ‘Pillar of African Sports’. He
deserved that, and a lot more. What he did not deserve is to be, albeit
posthumously, the centre of a fully avoidable acrimony, one that has
now resulted in the shutting down one of the institutions of learning to
whose cause, the cause of learning, President-elect MKO Abiola also
made unparalleled private contributions.
Let me end by stressing that my position remains the same as it was when the University of Ife was re-named Obafemi Awolowo University.
I deplored it at the time, deplore it till today, have never come to
terms with it, and still hope that someday in the not too distant
future, that crime against the culture of institutional autonomy will be
rectified. Let us not compound the aberrations of the past with
provocations in an era that should propel us towards a belated new Age
of Enlightenment.

Big Brother Update: Prezzo calls Goldie a ‘true woman’
By Olamide Jasanya
Kenyan rapper and Goldie‘s ‘boyfriend’ Prezzo has lauded her attributes, calling her a ‘true woman’.
He said this during his conversation with fellow house-mate DKB,
in which he confessed his distaste for Zainab, who he describes as
‘dumb’. Criticizing her provocative dress sense and flirty manner, he
said there was no way he would start a relationship with Zainab because
he prefers a more conservative woman.
‘I can’t make this shorty my woman because her boobs are always displayed‘, he said.
As far as Goldie was concerned, the
Kenyan rapper was full of praises, adding that even if he were to leave
the Nigerian singer, he still wouldn’t hook up with Zainab.
‘I don’t mind Goldie not kissing or touching because she respects herself‘,
said Prezzo. This was after he fought and told her ‘we are just
friends,’ prompting Goldie to burst into uncontrollable tears and
eventually throw-up.
Afterwards, Goldie, during a chat with
fellow house mate, Barbz, said communication is the reason for the
constant hiccups in her relationship with Prezzo.
Big Brother Update: Prezzo calls Goldie a ‘true woman’ » Psquare signs distribution deal with Universal Music South Africa
By Osagie Alonge
From the looks of it, Nigerian Pop duo Psquare
have signed a major deal with the South Africa imprint of one of the
biggest record labels in the world – Universal Music Group.
‘Psquare has been signed to UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP… Baba God has done it again..@JUDEENGEES @rudeboypsquare @MisterMayD‘, Peter Okoye, one half of the popular twin pop duo Psquare disclosed on micro-blogging website Twitter some minutes ago.
According to reports, the signing took place today in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa.
The brothers have been heavily linked with Akon who announced in December 2011 that he had signed the twins onto his Konvict Music label
as African representatives. Universal Music Group is the parent company
of Akon’s Konvict Musik and Kon Live Distribution labels.
Universal Music Group founded in 1934 is
an American multinational music company and one of the ‘big four’
record companies in the world. But, as is the norm in music business,
Universal Music SA is a ‘South African’ company distributing in that
country and environs. We can not confirm as at the time of writing, the
specific particulars of the Psquare contract, and whether the brothers
are also in talks with Universal in Europe and the US.
The deal with Psqure, we’re told, is a South Africa distribution deal covering past and current Psquare catalogues.
VIDEO: D’banj teaches London students Oliver Twist dance
By Osagie Alonge
On Thursday May 24, 2012 D’banj became the first artiste to back the London 2012 World Sport Day event.
The event on June 25 is the culmination
of the main Olympic education initiatives encouraging kids across the UK
to celebrate the competing nations and learn about dance, music,
culture and of course sport from around the world.
D’Banj recently paid a visit to the Plumstead Manor School
in Greenwich, who are the official ‘Nigeria supporting school’. As the
school will be celebrating Nigeria as their chosen country, the students
were excited to discuss their plans with him and in turn D’Banj was
able to share tips and stories about Nigerian culture.
D’banj didn’t leave until he made sure they had also learnt ‘Oliver twist’ dance moves.

CPC Breaks Into Faction.......Fights Each Other
CPC Leader, Muhammadu Buhari
By Onyebuchi Ezigbo and Adebiyi Adedapo
What would have been a major clash
between rival groups of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) was
yesterday averted by the Nigerian Police.
The incident took place just as the
rival faction loyal to the former National Chairman of CPC, Senator
Rufai Hanga, inaugurated its national caretaker committee to take over
the affairs of the party for the period of two years.
However, heavy presence of policemen was
noticed at the national secretariat of the party to avert what would
have been a major clash between the rival factions.
Speaking on the incident, the CPC
Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, described the group who
stormed the party office as “mere thugs.”
Fashakin said the group seeking to destabilise the party had become very desperate and threw decorum to the dust-bin.
The swearing-in ceremony after much
delay later took place yesterday at Peace Park Hotel, near the national
secretariat of the party.
Chairman of the committee Alhaji
Abubakar Hayatu, and the committee secretary, Alhaji Sheu Barau Ningi,
alongside members from the six geo-political zones, sworn the oath of
allegiance which was administered by one Mr. Umukor Egbobokolobia.
Hayatu vowed that the committee would
take over the party’s national headquarters in due course, as he said
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was in support of
the development.
“It is the stand of INEC that do what we
are doing here, we are waiting for few administrative process before we
takeover the headquarters and it will be soon,” he said.
He refuted the allegation that members
of the caretaker committee were expelled members of the party, saying he
was never at anytime suspended or expelled from the party.
“I was never suspended or expelled from
the party, even those who were suspended in my opinion, were suspended
without recourse to due process,” he added.
The caretaker committee chairman had in
his inaugural speech, stated that the committee would not live up to
expectation in achieving its terms of reference.
He called on party member to remain
committed and loyal to the party leadership and the passion of the
party's national leader Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Members of the committee include Engr.
Chris Agha Oko (Deputy Chairman Muhhamed Tukur Abba Sada, Dr. Armayau
Yushua, Hon. Dele Sobaloju, Edward Ofomona, Shehu Nafuntua and Comrade
Ibrahim Musa as the national youth leader.
The committee of states chairmen of the
party led by the Enugu state chairman, Barrister Emeka Okarfor had last
week suspended the party's national chairman Prince Tony Momoh, national
secretary Buba Gadima and two other members of the party's BoT.
The committee in a statement signed by 23 members passed a vote of no confidence in the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party, thereby pronounced it dissolved.
The committee in a statement signed by 23 members passed a vote of no confidence in the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party, thereby pronounced it dissolved.
“A vote of total loss of confidence in
the management committee and the National Executive Committee of the
party is hereby unanimously passed on them,” he said.
The committee accused a member of the
NEC of been responsible for the party's poor outing in the 2011
elections, saying Buhari would be happy with their position on the
party.
“Gen. Buhari will have a sound sleep
today, they have carpeted him, regionalised the party and created a gap
between Gen. Buhari and the people,” he said.
He stated further that both the management committee and the NEC of the party cease to function with immediate effect.
Asked about the legality of their action, Okafor said the same committee of state in January 2010 elected the NEC, and it has the 2/3 majority to legitimise its action.

The committee however pledged its
support to the national leadership of the party, Buhari as it said
Burahi remained the true leader of the party.
It stated that all suspended members of
the party had been pardoned and recalled as bonafide members of the

It also stated that the Mallam Nasir
el-Rufai renewal committee should proceed with its assignment saying
their activities was in tandem with el-Rufai's bid to reposition the
party.

6 Sentenced to death in Pakistan for dancing and Singing at the Wedding
Four women and two men have been sentenced to death in northern Pakistan for singing and dancing at a wedding, police said on Monday . Clerics issued a decree after a mobile phone video emerged of the six enjoying themselves in a remote village in the mountainous district of Kohistan, 176 kilometres north of Islamabad.
Pakistani authorities in the area said local clerics had ordered the punishment over allegations that the men and women danced and sang together in Gada village, in defiance of strict tribal customs that separate men and women at weddings. “The local clerics issued a decree to kill all four women and two men shown in the video,” district police officer Abdul Majeed Afridi said.
“It was decided that the men will be killed first, but they ran away so the women are safe for the moment. I have sent a team to rescue them,” he said, adding that the women had been confined to their homes. Afridi said the events stemmed from a dispute between two tribes and that there was no evidence the men and women had been inter-mingling .
“All of them were shown separately in the video. I’ve seen the video,” he said. “This is tribal enmity. The video has been engineered to defame the tribe,” he added.
British man Marries Second Kenyan lover after being Scammed by first Kenya Wife
Tim who is a bricklayer was first dumped by Ms Njenga, who he now suspects was already married at the time of their wedding. Sources say their wedding in a Nairobi hotel in October 2008 cost £5,000 and that Ms Njenga walked out straight after the wedding.
Speaking to the press, 58year old tim said: “I know people might think I’m being taken for a ride, especially after my last experience. But Maryanne is completely different to Priscila and I know this is the real deal. When Priscila left me I felt completely betrayed. She lied about everything – even telling me she was 34 when she was actually 40″
Bizarrely, Nine months later Mr Reeves allowed Ms Njenga back into his life when she asked him to help bring her daughter Helen, 18, to Britain. In what might come as no surprise, She then left again in August 2010.
Man Caught mysteriously Stuck Inside Cheating Woman Due to Black Magic juju spell Done by the Woman’s husband
Now, after meeting Maryanne on a dating website four months ago, he has financed her move into a luxury flat and covers her daughter’s school fees. He said they are united by ‘hardships’ and plans to leave his home in Slough, Berkshire, to live in Kenya.‘I’ve fallen out with my mum and my close friends about emigrating. They don’t want me to get hurt again but this is my future happiness,’ he added.
Mr Reve’s ex wife Ms Njenga and current wife Ms Wanja were both unavailable for comment.
UNN student commits suicide this morning
A
student from the university sent me a mail about what happened in their
school early this morning. The students of University of Nigeria,
Nsuka, woke up to find one of their own hanging from a rope in an
unfinished Franco building beside the hockey pitch in their school.
Roommates of the dead student said he left the room around 2am this
morning and they thought he had gone to study, only for his corpse to be
found dangling from a rope this morning. He's a 3rd year Physics and
Astronomy student in his early 20's. A purported suicide note which
read, "The controversy is over" was discovered near him.
The dead student, now identified as Onyebuchi Okonkwo had a mental illness last year and was hospitalized at UI for one month. So so sad. A photo of the sad incident when you continue...but viewer discretion advised.

Dad Forces Son to Hold Sign for Bad Grades
The seventh-grade student was forced to stand on a street corner with a sign reading, "I want to be a class clown. Is it wrong?" and asking cars to honk if they agreed that failing three classes was bad.
This type of out-of-the-box discipline always gets attention, and particularly in the black community, some of us get really excited about tough love in any form. Remember all the cheers for the uncle who whipped his nephew with a belt on Facebook for wanting to be a gangbanger? Sadly, the teen was murdered despite the efforts to use viral-video-worthy violence to get him to change his lifestyle.
When it comes to examples of great parenting, the techniques used by the moms and dads of everyday, well-adjusted kids who do well in school will probably never be sensational enough to make the local, let alone national, news. But logic suggests that they're probably more effective than those of the parents who, like this father, find themselves having to use public humiliation as a desperate last resort.
Exclusive: Conversations with 50 Cent: Lil Wayne, Beef, DJ Drama, The Lost Tape
“They build entertainers to destroy entertainers…for entertainment,” 50 Cent says frankly with the cool demeanor of a warlord that has seen honest time on the battlefield.
“The environment that I grew up in, we were taught to greet aggression with aggression. So if you want a problem, I’ll offer a bigger problem until you decide that might not be a good idea,” he continues. “There’s no need to kiss and make up or shake hands. You forget my name, I’ll forget your name and we move on.”
The truth is, 50 charges, beef will always course though Hip-Hop’s veins and 50 has seen it from all angles, from street conflicts to trivial rap spats.
“Its Hip-Hop. Battling has always been a part of the culture…there was never no altercation that created this issue that you call beef,” he explains of his situation with Lil Wayne. “I didn’t run into him anywhere, [but the boxing match with Floyd Mayweather].” The pair recently had a brief encounter to which 50 details in the audio to this exclusive interview.
AllHipHop.com’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur talked to 50 Cent and DJ Drama in a surprisingly candid interview that yielded many answers and more questions as well. The mogul of Hip-Hop details explains his encounter with Lil Wayne, the method to his mania and other matters.
In addition to theorizing beef, 50 Cent and DJ Drama joined forces to release Gangsta Grillz “The Lost Tape” last week to critical fanfare by fans.
In the obligatory ice breaker, 50 and Drama talk about finally linking up after trying in 2007. 50 maintains he helped get 2 Chainz “Riot” back up the charts, he embraced rapping Southern-style from way back and explained how he continues to served these Hip-Hop fiends.

Crazy Talk: Palin: Obama Wants Discrimination
Sarah Palin (Fox News)
Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.
We can only guess that this convoluted theory about what Obama "seems to want" is a response to the recent Derrick Bell non-scandal and the idea that he thought and talked about race when he was a student -- which, as everyone on the far right is aware, means he is racist.
If she says so ...

(AllHipHop News) The son of James “Jimmy
Henchman” Rosemond recently sat down with AllHipHop.com to discuss his
father’s cocaine trial, which is currently taking place in Federal Court
in Brooklyn, New York.
Rosemond Jr., who celebrated a birthday over the holiday weekend, remains optimistic and convinced of his father’s innocence.
James Rosemond, Sr., who managed acts like Sean Kingston, Game, Mike Tyson, Akon, and others, is facing a life sentence for allegedly masterminding a $10 million-a-year cocaine operation.
“I am blessed to celebrate another year, but at the same time my heart is heavy,” James “Lil Henchman” Rosemond told AllHipHop.com. “If I had one wish, it would be to have my father free and home with me and my little sisters.”
The elder Rosemond was arrested in June 2011 on cocaine distribution charges, after a 30-day, nationwide manhunt.
“It’s been a year since we have had to hear lie after lie about my dad, but mind you all, I know the truth because I lived with him,” added Lil Hench, who has attended each day of testimony since the trial began on May 14.
Although his father is charged with serious crimes, Lil Henchman said that his dad raised him well and helped him better his life.
“I am who I am today because of my dad. I am enrolled in college because of my dad,” Lil Hench told AllHipHop.com.
“I have experienced different cultures and learned to give back because of my dad. I want to dedicate my birthday today with ‘Free James Rosemond’ and a birthday wish of him returning home to his family. Love you dad, and we are going to fight this fight!”
Testimony continues today (May 29).

Hip-Hop Rumors: 50 Cent Calls Lloyd Banks A “Baby” – Says They Haven’t Spoken In 9 Months
It looks like G-Unit may be on the verge of officially falling
apart. 50 Cent has reveled that he and Lloyd Banks have not spoken in
nine months, and in the same breath, says that Banks is “a baby.” Check
out what 50 said below:
“He goes through these things where there’s no communication, and he goes off and does what he wants. It’s set at that point, because I’ve spent marketing dollars so he can go wherever he wants to go and actually go do shows, make money, and do other things,” 50 told radio host Big Boy.
“At that point, it’s fine for him to move around and go do it by himself. I want them to be individuals and operate on their own away from me, I’m fine with it. … We can get on the phone together, but I haven’t spoken to him. I haven’t spoken to Banks in nine months. But this is not the first time this has happened. He’s a baby. He’s the youngest in the actual G-Unit; he got really rich at 19. Both him and Tony [Yayo] have made over $9 million. With [Young] Buck, it was almost $8 million.”

Mary J Blige Explains Charity Lawsuit
Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
From Hip Hop DX:
"It happens that FFAWN [The Mary J Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now] has been mismanaged [financially]," she explained. "When I found out about all these issues and things concerning FFAWN, I immediately got on the phone with my lawyers and my advisors and tried to rectify this and fix this so none of those women [aided by the charity] would suffer that are going to college ... my goal is to do exactly what I set out to do and my motives were true and upfront: I set out to empower, encourage and help women and because I got a second chance myself, I wanted to give them a second chance. But it turns out that the business part of it was not managed properly…the funding that needed to come in for everything, the business side [of the organization] dropped the ball and everyone was about to suffer."
She added, "Right now as we speak, I've hired a team of people that are making sure that my business is taken as far as FFAWN is concerned. FFAWN is not shutting down, we are restructuring and we put a great team of people in place. I'm just proud to say that the grants, the scholarships that we set out to take care of will be taken care of."

the suggestion which Fashola’s supporters have been speculating for some
time.

three years.”.

NDLEA to prosecute man caught with drugs on Super Eagles flight
By Tosin Olakotan
Okorafor Chijioke Daniel, a native of Ebonyi state in Nigeria has been confirmed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for drug trafficking in an Iberia flight conveying Super Eagles players last weekend.
In a statement released by the agency’s head of public affairs Ofoyeju Mitchell,
Okorafor was caught with a bag containing 2kg of cocaine; all six
parcels of drug were concealed in the sole of 3 pairs of shoes in the
suspect’s hand luggage.
According to the law enforcement agent,
the suspect will be charged with unlawful exportation and possession of
cocaine under section 11 subsection b and d of the NDLEA Act.
NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr Hamza Umar
said ‘the 2kg of cocaine was traced to a passenger by name Okorafor
Chijioke Daniel. Six parcels of the drug were hidden inside the sole of
three pairs of shoes in his hand luggage. Our wall of security was hard
for him to break and he wanted to abandon the drug but he failed. His
case file is ready and he will soon appear in court’.
While agreeing to the crime, Okorafor, 45, explained his reason for the act by saying ‘I
lived in Poland for many years working in a supermarket. Problem began
when I lost my job and could not pay my bills. I relocated to Spain
where I got the offer to smuggle the drug for 8,000 dollars. It was
difficult for me to resist because I have wife and children. This is my
first time of smuggling drugs and I was nervous. I wanted to abandon the
drugs for fear of arrest but everything worked against me‘.
The suspect hails from Ebonyi State and attended Mgbom Central School but stopped in primary 3.

Nigeria’s Victor Olisa appointed London police commander
A UK-based Nigerian, Mr. Victor Olisa, has been appointed first black commander for the Bexley local council in London.
Olisa,
a Chief Superintendent with the London Metropolitan Police, whose
grandfather was a police officer in Nigeria, said his focus was on the
job rather than on being the ‘first black’ to hold the position.
He pointed out that his ethnicity never affected the way he carried out his duties.
“Policing
runs in the family and I have always wanted to be a police officer and
ethnicity does not affect that” Olisa told reporters in London, in his
reaction on the appointment.
“I
consider myself first and foremost a police officer. If (being black)
is an advantage, then brilliant; If it’s a disadvantage, I will have to
deal with that, I can’t hide it.”
Olisa
said a lot was being done to address racism within the force, adding
that it was the responsibility of the force to correct wrongs and not an
institution for people with racist views.
“I
am impeccably against anyone who uses racist language or behaves in a
racist manner. This will not be allowed under my watch…I believe that
everyone should be treated with dignity wherever they come from,” Olisa
said.
Olisa, 52, was born in Warri, Delta State, Southern Nigeria.
He is one of the three chief superintendents from black minority ethnic background working for the Metropolitan Police.
He
started his career in Surrey Police in 1982 before transferring to the
City of London Police in 1990 as a detective inspector in the fraud
squad.
After
a spell at the Home Office, he transferred to the Metropolitan police
in 2006 as a superintendent in Southwark Council before his recent
appointment.
